In September 2021 the Pilgrims Gallery team welcomed representatives of the Wampanoag Nation for a cultural exchange visit. Local primary schools were invited to participate in the project by joining the Wampanoag visitors at Bassetlaw Museum to learn about their history, culture and to see the wetu being built.
The wetu now stands proudly in the museum gardens and we welcome schools to come and visit and learn more about the Wampanoag Nation and explore the wetu further. The resources below make up a learning pack to help schools prepare for and get the most out of their visit. They will also be useful for schools wanting to learn about: the Mayflower pilgrims; the Wampanoag Nation; and the impact of colonisation on Native Americans.
